Stevie Nicks Urges Action On Pandemic: 'Please Don't Throw This World Away'

Stevie Nicks recently shared a journal entry from mid-July in which she documents what appears to be a bout of insomnia.

Nicks begins by writing that she's "still awake" at 6:50 a.m. listening to music and feeling "slightly euphoric and inspired to be alive."

But while the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has grown to relish the solitude of the early morning, her waking comfort is balanced out by the knowledge that soon she'll read the day's news, and that "will negate all this goodness."

Nicks then addresses the world beyond her home and the pain the novel coronavirus pandemic has brought. She advocates — as many others have, including the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization — for people to wear masks to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and "do all that you can to stop the virus before someone you know falls really ill. Because then, you will be too late. Your life will be forever changed."

The Fleetwood Mac singer adds that if people do not make it their "mission to fight this virus" they will be doomed to "live with such guilt and regret that it will destroy us."

Like so many other musicians, Nicks says she wants to get back on tour as soon as possible, but that can't happen before there is a break in the pandemic.

"Please don't throw this world away," she concluded. "Please don't give up on humanity and let this virus win this war. It's up to us now — because nobody is helping us. Nobody is coming to our rescue. No one."
